peruvianus Ancash [KK1698]
[It is not clear if all Ancash are synonymous.
See note under KK1688]

[Material originating from the Huntington via their annual plant
sale]
peruvianus
Huancabamba [Mesa Garden seeds were collected at Huancabamba]
This so far is showing to be an extremely beautiful v-marked, brown felted and short-spined pachanoid with heavy blushing and a dark-green epidermis. It also shows considerable variation from one seedling to the next. What we have examined was far less "stepped" in profile than a normal pachanoi.
peruvianus forma [KK242]
"KK 242"
What's
in a
name?
Apparently, KK242 means
it was collected in Matucana at a particular elevation range. (pers. comm
with Karel Knize in 2000)
Knize recognizes 9 distinct “KK242”; around half or so are short spined.
Those grown from KK242 seeds provided by Knize (outletted via multiple growers) have predominantly been quite spiny.
peruvianus var. Huancavelica [KK242a]
(Unfortunately, Knize failed to include this in our 2000 shipment but calls
it "spined, 3-4 cm long, 8-12 cm diameter")
peruvianus forma Huancayo [KK338]
[Variegated]
[Knize calls this one "erect up to 3 m" and "probably"
a peruvianus. Collected 3200m, Huancayo. Central Peru]
peruvianus Matucana [Seed
grown by BR] [Basement
Shaman] [There are also others]
peruvianus f. Matucana [Cutting from Knize]
peruvianus forma North Peru [KK1688]
[Knize, in his 1999 cutting list, described KK1688 both as "probably"
a peruvianus variety; and also "Ancash, San Marcos, 2500m, erect, related to culture
Chavin, probably the original peruvianus" Ok...]
Also appears as 'spiny wid type pachanoi' [J.L. Hudson from Knize seeds.]
peruvianus var. Cuzco KK340; peruvianus var. cuzcoensis KK340
[KK340 is also given, by Knize, as
"Trichocereus cuzcoensis": "Cuzco, 3200m, erect, hard dia 10-12c,
spines 1-3 cm, M-spine 1-3, 2-5 cm"; Material sent by Knize
in 2000]
(There IS more than one "KK340"
in existance.)
peruvianus var. Puquiensis [KK1689]
(Knize
has variously offered material designated KK1689 as “sp. Trancas-Ocro” and
“T. puquiensis”.
The apparent pachanoi-peruvianus intermediate KK1689
obtained from Knize in 2000 bore little resemblance to authentic T.
puquiensis that was field collected by Paul Hutchison.)
peruvianus var. trujilloensis
This is definitely not a peruvianus and we believe that it is also not a Trichocereus. It appeared
to have originally entered the US market thanks to Knize via NMCR but we have thusfar been able to learn
nothing more about it. It appears to be more properly placed in Browningia or Rauhocereus but we are still waiting to see its flowers (Maybe THIS year?). B. Ressler suspects it to possibly be a form of Rauhocereus riosaniensis Backeberg.
